Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site, being the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. The founder of Buddhist religion, Lord Buddha is known as a symbol of peace and has drawn many followers through his enlightenment. Queen Mayadevi gave birth to him here, and she is believed to have taken a ritual dip on a pond here, prior to his birth. Many are awed by the tranquility and beauty of this place standing tall in the plains of Terai.

Lumbini is bejeweled with many temples and monasteries which exhibit remarkable architectural skills. Over the years, there have been special efforts made to endorse Lumbini as the birthplace of Buddha, and in the process maintenance has been the key. It looks very colorful with greens, blooming flowers and prayer flags. It is definitely a place to be if you're looking for a peaceful time amidst a serene place.
